Missing child found with beggar

SRI LANKA: A three-year-old child identified as Buddhika, who went missing at the Ambalangoda bus stand in December 2013 while he was accompanied by his grandmother, has been found after 10 months with a 42-year-old beggar at Dambulla town, ‘Divaina’ reported.

Although the little boy told the police that the beggar was his father at the Dambulla police station, the grandmother had identified her grandchild.

After being produced before the Dambulla Magistrate, the beggar, who claimed that the child was his, had been remanded till November 3 and the child has been handed over to Abe Children’s Home in Anuradhapura.

A resident, who had received one of the photographs of the child distributed by his parents, had tipped-off the police about the child, Dambulla police OIC said.
