Pastor accused of rape inside church kills self

Colombo - A pastor who is accused of raping two young women in a church has died in hospital after consuming poison, ‘Lakbima’ has reported.

The deceased was a 30-year-old married person from Irattakulama in Madampe and was operating a church in Pambala area in Chilaw.

Blame was levelled against him for the rape of two girls aged 19 and 15, inside the church.

The 19-year-old victim, a resident of Weerahena, Nattandiya, had complained to the Chilaw police that the suspect raped her when she was 15-years and several occasions thereafter.

The 15-year old victim complained to the police that suspect raped her about two years ago.

Police said the suspect consumed poison when they went to arrest him at the church and had rushed him to the Chilaw General Hospital where he had died on 19 while under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Chilaw police are conducting investigations.
