Pregnant woman caught with a pellet of drugs

A pregnant woman, 33, was nabbed at the Bandaragama Courts premises on Tuesday, along with a pellet of drugs worth Rs. 5,000 wrapped in her handkerchief.

The drugs was supposed to be given to her illegal husband being brought in a court case from the remand prison, Bandaragama police said.

Lankadeepa newspaper reported that on a tip-off received by the acting OIC Inspector WAR Karunaratne, that there was a suspicious woman inside the court premises.

Woman Police Sergeant (3009) Janaki, who was searching the area, saw a pregnant woman trying to escape among the crowd.

When the woman was taken into custody, a pellet of drugs was found tied to the woman’s handkerchief .

The woman confessed that she brought the drugs to be given to her illegal husband, who was arrested in the Veediyagoda area in Bandaragama.

Her husband had been remanded about two months ago for possessing an illegal firearm.

The police said they had received information that drugs being sold within the remand prison.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Banadaragama police.
