Principal arrested for abusing pupils, teachers

SRI LANKA: The principal of Subhagya Special School in Kumbukkana, Moneragala has been arrested by the Moneragala police on Tuesday night for sexually abusing disable underage schoolgirls, for harassment, sexual abuse of a female teacher and seeking sexual bribe from other female teachers, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

Moneragala ASP Anura Pushpakumara said that after a long investigation carried out by a special investigation team from the SP’s office, based on the tip-off received by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) and the Moneragala DIG, the suspect was arrested with the help of the NCPA officers.

The school provides education to special children.

In an earlier occasion, the principal had been accused of sexually abusing a schoolboy at the Moneragala Magistrate Court. The case had been settled amicably.

He had also been accused of engaging the disabled children in construction work and the children had given statements with regard to the cruel treatment meted out to them.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Moneragala Magistrate and the police are conducting further investigations.
