Sri Lankan 'child star' abused for 10 years

Colombo: A businessman in Sri Lanka has been arrested for allegedly abusing a girl for 10 years.

The Managing Director of a shipping company has been molesting the 22-year-old victim since she was 12, reported ‘Daily Mirror’.

He was arrested following a complaint lodged by the young woman, who was quite famous as she hosted a programme on television.

The businessman contacted her first when she was attending a tuition class. Soon their relation became intimate, as he promised to marry her once she turns an adult, she testified. He would take her to various hotels and apartments when she stepped out for her classes, she added.

She alleged that she had filed a police complaint in 2013 after she was brutally abused at a housing complex in Colombo, but the police took no action, the report added.

The woman claimed that his advances were so brutal that she had to undergo surgeries to rectify them. In one such incident, she claims, he beat her because she refused to go with him and she had an operation to her ear.

He was released on a bail surety of [Sri Lankan] Rs1 million. The court has ordered a non-summary inquiry to be conducted and the next hearing has been fixed for September 16.
