A 19-year-old boy has been arrested in Sri Lanka for raping and impregnating his 13-year-old sister, the ‘Ceylon Today’ newspaper reporter.

The accused, a resident of Thelawela, Ratmalana, was taken into custody by the Mount Lavinia Police.

The suspect was ordered to be remanded until June 20 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ranga Wimalasena.

The girl had gone to a doctor complaining of stomach ache. The doctor had prescribed a urine test and the report had shown that she was pregnant. The girl was thereafter referred to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital where doctors  determined that she was in the fifth month of pregnancy.

On being questioned by the Mount Lavinia Police, the girl revealed that she had been raped by her 19-year-old brother.
