Teen schoolgirl commits suicide over love letter

A Grade VI schoolgirl in Sri Lanka committed suicide after being discovered by her teacher to have written a love letter to a boy in her class, the ‘Hiru Gossip’ has reported.

The 12-year-old girl of a school in Wellawaya killed herself by hanging with a sari in the house as she was upset with her teacher’s advice, the newspaper said.

When students’ school bags were checked last Friday, a love letter, thought to have been written by the dead girl, was found in the bag of a boy. The class teacher summoned her and informed her in writing to come with her father or mother to school on Monday.

After returning home after school, the girl went to her room to change her dress but did not come out. After they broke open the door, parents found her hanging by a sari.

With help from a woman neighbour, the girl was taken to Wellawaya base hospital but was declared dead.

After the love letter incident, the girl had told her friends that she would commit suicide by hanging.
 
Husband hacks wife’s paramour to death

After finding his wife in bed with another man, a husband in Sri Lanka hacked the paramour to death last Saturday, the ‘Lankadeepa’ has reported.

Police said the husband, a fisherman, had returned home unexpectedly and, after catching the paramour red handed, he beat the man inside the house and hacked him after dragging him out to the road.

The seriously wounded man, a father of two, died after admission to the Hambantota general hospital.

The suspect fled the scene while his wife, a mother of two, has been arrested.

Police said the suspicious husband had gone out of the house on the pretext of going to work, came home suddenly and caught both his wife and paramour in the act.

The woman told police that she had become friendly with the paramour while taking her child to school. She admitted that the dead man had visited her several times earlier.

Police is searching for the suspect.
