Trishaw crashes into train killing Omani student

Colombo - An Omani national succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital after a trishaw he was travelling in crashed into a moving train at the Liyanagemulla railway crossing along the Colombo Chilaw railway line, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

Hospital authorities said the trishaw driver was seriously wounded and admitted to the Ragama Hospital.
 
The victim was identified as, Muneer Abdulla, aged 20, an Omani national, who was following a course in Aircraft Engineering at the Katunayake Airport.
 
Police said the gate-keeper had closed a gate on one side of the crossing and was waving a red flag on the other side, signaling a train coming, but trishaw driver drove his vehicle directly into the train.

 
Suspect arrested for killing boy
 
A man has been arrested for the murder of a 11-year-old schoolboy at the Nindakulam area in Vavuniya,  ‘Rivira’ reported.

The suspect was a youth, aged 18, from the same area and was due to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate.
The child had been murdered on April 9 by slashing the neck.
