Tummy ache turns out to be pregnancy

A 16-year-old girl, who had complained of a stomach ache, was found to be seven months pregnant.

A 16-year-old girl, who was admitted to Sri Lanka’s Mahiyangana Hospital after complaining of a stomach ache, was found to be seven months pregnant after a medical test.

According to the police, the girl had been raped in the jungle by a cow herd, according to a report in Ceylon Today newspaper.

Police, who  are searching for the cow herd, wondered how even the girl’s mother was unaware of her daughter’s pregnancy.

Chinese nabbed with tortoises


The Sri Lankan police has arrested a Chinese national and his driver for allegedly transporting six tortoises from Hambantota to Colombo, reports the Daily Mirror newspaper.

The suspects were arrested at Weligama. Police said the Chinese man was a shipping manager attached to Colombo Port.

The two are to be brought before the magistrate in Matara.
