Wife's attack with iron pole kills husband

A 59-year-old man in Sri Lanka has died after an attack on him with an iron pole by his wife after a long arument, the ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported.

Police said that the man succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Buttala hospital on April 13.

The 49-year-old suspect is a mother of four. The reason for the argument is not yet clear.

Meanwhile, a two-and-a-half year old Sri Lankan child has died after consuming six paracetamol tablets, the ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The child had been rushed to the Theldeniya hospital and from there to the Kandy General Hospital where she passed away.

The victim had been identified as, Senadhi Vihanka Sandeepani, who had consumed the tablets unknowingly.  The post mortem report indicated intake of the tablets as the casue of  the death.

Lankan stabs brothers-in-law  in Italy


A Sri Lankan man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder of his two brothers-in-law in Italy, ‘Colombo Gazette’ reported.

The suspect was a 36-year old man from the Italian town of Naples.

He had stabbed the two men in his house following a dispute and had run away, while the men, 30 and 33 years of age, had reported the incident to the police after admission to hospital.

During his attempt to flee, the Sri Lankan suspect was arrested and a long knife stained with blood was found after a body search.

The suspect’s wife has told police that the attack had taken place after an argument between her and her husband over food that he did not like. Her brothers were stabbed after they intervened because they feared she would be attacked, she said.

Village officers held for molesting teen boy


Two village officers, one man and a woman, have been arrested in Sri Lanka for severe sexual abuse of a 16-year-old boy over three years, the ‘Mawbima’ reported.

According to a ‘B’ report filed by the police, the victim had been attending karate classes conducted by the village officer. The suspect had taken the boy to his illegal companion’s house where he was sexually abused.

After a charge was filed by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) over the phone to Seeduwa police, the suspects were caught on April 11 and remanded till April 25.

Police has admitted the boy to the Negombo hospital for a medical examination.
