Woman's first paramour bumps off second one

The second paramour of a woman, who had abandoned her husband, has been killed her first lover in Sri Lanka, the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper reported.

Police said after splitting with her husband, the woman, a mother of two, was carrying on affair with the murder accused when he was jailed over a previous murder.

After he was sent to prison, the woman started an affair with murder victim.

When her former lover was released from prison after several years, he found out that the woman was carrying on with another man. After an argument with the second paramour, the woman’s first lover assaulted him with a pole, resulting in his death.

Heroin smuggler’s ‘diplomatic’ ruse fails

A Nigerian national, who tried to smuggle 30kg of superior quality heroin worth SLRs240 million from Sri Lanka to Uganda, was caught at Colombo airport on Monday, the ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper reported.

A customs spokesman said the arrested man arrived on October 26 at Bandaranaike Airport with two bags and claimed that they belonged to the ambassador waiting in the VVIP lounge to fly to Entebbe via Gulf city.

The customs had no authority to check an ambassador’s baggage because of diplomatic immunity.

But customs officials learnt that there was in fact no ambassador present in the VVIP lounge, they sought permission from the foreign ministry to search the suspect’s hotel room. The suspect he had left the baggage at the airport, saying he would return on November 4

Customs officials also found that the suspect, a quarry adviser, had visited Sri Lanka three times earlier.

The suspect has been handed over to the Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
