A teenager who was given new medication to treat epilepsy before her 19th birthday, noticed some skin rashes and swollen lips on the morning of her annual big day, reports Daily Mail.

Little did she realise that it was a toxic reaction to the new epilepsy medicines that she was taking.

Her condition worsened significantly thanks to doctors misdiagnosing her condition as herpes, measles and chicken pox.

She had to be rushed to the hospital where she was finally diagnosed as suffering with life-threatening Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Syndrome (TENS).

As a result of the above-mentioned syndrome, the skin and organs tend to burn from inside out and peel.

The patient can only be given pain medication, similar to those prescribed to burn victims.

The teenager fought for her life and had to stay in hospital for about a month, but she emerged victorious. Even though she has the battle scars on her face as proof of the crisis that she just crossed, the teen told the UK daily that she is thankful to be alive.
