Within hours of the launch of ‘Thankyou_Khalifa’ on Twitter, the hashtag shot straight to the top of the trends charts on the microblogging site, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

Earlier, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the hashtag in Arabic, on his official Twitter page, to display gratitude to the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed said: “Join me with a phrase, a photo or a short video, a greeting from the heart to Sheikh Khalifa, we want to tell him altogether... Thank you Khalifa.”

The call was answered in a landslide of tweets, videos and words of love and gratitude by the global community, causing the hashtag to climb the Twitter charts swiftly to the top.

While Emirati children recorded short videos, expressing their love for Sheikh Khalifa, which have been uploaded on Dubai Media Office’s Instagram account, others called for a ‘Twibbon’ or a Twitter ribbon to their display pictures on the site that reads: ‘Thankyou Khalifa’ in Arabic.

UAE resident, Khalid Al Ameri, tweeted: “I come from a country that has given me every opportunity to live a life of dignity, happiness, and success.”

El Malikah said: “While others suffered through three dark gloomy years, we were ushered into the light by you goodwill.”
Mohd Seran said: “Thank you is simply not enough. What you have offered to your people and those around the world is much more than that.”

Mohammed AR Al Fahim said: “The high status that UAE shares on a global platform is a matter of pride and a sense of self, which is evident when we travel abroad.”

Mohd El Dashash: “Sheikh Khalifa, your mercy and strength perfectly complements the foundation of this modern state that is based on justice and equality for all, citizens and expatriates.”

B Abdulaziz said: “The integration of leadership and compatibility in the UAE is the secret of its strength and success.”

Zayed wrote: “Thanks father for what you have given us and for what you continue to give us.”

Mohammed SY simply said: “Sheikh Khalifa: great father, perfect leader.”
