It highlights record-breaking feats that have made Dubai and the UAE, a model for evolution and a beacon of development in the region and the world at large.

Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office said: ”Using 3D graphics, ‘The Journey’ has been created in the form of an electronic map which navigates users to sites that were the scene of the most important achievements associated with His Highness’ name.

The 3-D technology has been combined with a rare collection of photographs, in addition to clips related to the key events covered in this journey, which abounds with successes and achievements.”

The seven-and-a-half minute video was launched via the official website of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum: www.sheikhmohammed.ae and His Highness’ YouTube channel:www.youtube.com/user/HHSMohammedBinRashid

Vision of His Highness

‘The Journey’ takes you on a visual and information tour shedding light on the achievements that have been made thanks to His Highness’ guidance, supervision and follow-up in all fields – be it economic, cultural or sports or areas of humanitarian work and volunteering as well as other paths in which our country has made distinguished and qualitative achievements thanks to His Highness’ vision.

The DGMO ensured the selection of the most important and the most prominent of a long list of successes that gave Dubai its well-merited standing among the best cities in the developed world and cemented its position as a beacon for growth and development in the region.

The map traces the official positions held by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, starting from assuming the position of Chief of Dubai Police and Public Security in 1969 to taking up the post of Defence Minister of the UAE in 1973 to becoming Crown Prince of Dubai in 1995, to his assuming the power of Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai since 2006.

The work pays special tribute to economy and development. It highlights a series of achievements through which Dubai has created a deeply influential strategy in its rich march of development and modernisation. Among these key achievements are the opening of Port Rashid in 1972, the establishment of Jaddaf Dubai in 1977, construction of Dubai World Trade Centre in 1978, opening of Jebel Ali Port in 1979, launch of Emirates airline in 1985, and the launch of the Dubai Shopping Festival in 1996.

New Evolution of Dubai

The map also displays, in an ascending order, a range of achievements that were born in the context of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

It was the birth of a new phase in the evolution of Dubai when the emirate chose to enter the era of ‘knowledge-based economy’ laying the foundations of a group of qualitative and giant projects which have made the Emirate the focus of world attention as a unique model in the areas of growth and development in the Arab region.

Some major projects in this period included the launch of the Dubai Quality Award (1994), Dubai Government Excellence Award (1997), the Dubai Internet City (1999), the opening of Burj Al Arab Hotel (1999), as well as the launch of Dubai Media City (2000), and the Arab Media Forum (2001). The same year witnessed the launch of e-Government project, as well as the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises followed by Dubai Healthcare City (2002).

Navigating between time and place, the work also showcases the launch of the Dubai International Financial Centre - DIFC (2002), the opening of Palm Jumeirah (2008), Dubai Metro (2009), and the opening of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building by far in the world (2010) -- right down to the year 2013, during which Dubai made a range of achievements of great significance, such as the launch of the strategic plan for developing Dubai as the hub for the global Islamic economy, and the launch of ‘Smart Government’ in addition to the conclusion of the Emirates Airline’s biggest deal in the history of global civil aviation.

The video map extends to cover a wide range of economic, social, cultural as well as sport achievements accomplished thanks to the futuristic vision of Sheikh Mohammed.

The UAE’s win to host World Expo 2020 in Dubai crowns the most important achievements of 2013. The event will create a lasting legacy for more than 2 billion people who live in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (Menasa) region.
