Twitter abuzz with ‘end of the world confessions’

The fact that you’re reading this means that you probably already know it but, just for the record, the world didn’t end yesterday.

Harold Camping, the so-called preacher who made these predictions (not for the first time, mind you), however, ended with egg on his face.

The deadline for the apocalypse came and went across the world, without a bang. Make that a whimper.

Twitter users around the world, however, didn’t let the opportunity pass by and not only expressed their mock disappointment to the ‘non-rapture’ but also trending yesterday were some really bizarre ‘end of the world confessions’ (#EndOfTheWorldConfessions).

Twitter user Doctor Swagger (@LILTUNECHI) had this to day: “##EndOfTheWorldConfessions… the world ain’t ending son, my yoghurt expires in 2013…”

Another user by the name of The Dark Lord (@Lord_Voldemort7) acknowledged this in his tweet: “#EndOfTheWorldConfessions I ‘let the dogs out.’ It was me.”

Alan Wiliams (@Alan_Version2) too admitted guilt.

“#EndOfTheWorldConfessions I ate your easter egg!” read his tweet.

Chloe Winterbourne (@HelloImChloe) confessed: “#EndOfTheWorldConfessions I am the real Slim Shady”.

Julia (@JooJFracassi) wasn’t taking any chances of overworking herself if it was indeed going to be the end of the world.

“#EndOfTheWorldConfessions I’m not doing my science homework today just in case lol,” is what her tweet read.

But many others avoided making any confessions. As Annaliese Schiersch @likesowhatever) put it: “#EndOfTheWorldConfessions I think I’ll wait till we’re sure it’s the end.”

Or as Stephanie (@steph_d2i) put it: “#EndOfTheWorldConfessions.. I’m still not sharing and will take it to the grave ;)”In any case, this wasn’t the first time Camping was wrong. In 1992, Camping wrote a book titled “1994?” about the world coming to an end that year.

He says his predictions are based on taking direct quotes and stories from the Bible and applying them to numerological formulas. May 21, 2011, is exactly 7,000 years since the flood in the biblical story of Noah’s Ark.

The doomsday message has been sent far and wide via broadcasts and web sites by Camping, an 89-year-old retired civil engineer who has built a multi-million dollar non-profit ministry based on his apocalyptic prediction.
