Two doctors have been suspended for using forged documents, a Ministry of Health official said.

Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Executive Director for Medical Practices and Licenses at the Ministry of Health yesterday told Emirates 24|7 that the number of suspensions this year has reduced compared to previous years. According to reports about 51 complaints and cases of medical negligence in Dubai were registered at the health regulation department in 2009 alone.

“One of the doctor was suspended for using the stamp of a senior doctor, in his absence. Such cases are rare but strict action will be taken against doctors who violate the code,” said Amiri, without going into the details of the doctors of the hospitals they were working for.

According to him during a recent meeting of the Medical Licensing Committee it was decided to suspend a number of doctors temporarily until their appearance in front of the medical licensing committee at the ministry to discuss their violations. The committee also called the directors of the medical centers to enquire about the doctors’ violations and breaches. It also gave the right to the patients to go to the court and sue the doctors for the damages they have suffered.

In July the Dubai Health Authority had dismissed a female doctor at the Al Wasl hospital for causing the death of an 11-year-old girl.

The action was taken following complaints that despite the patient having been admitted as an emergency case following severe vomiting and fever, no immediate medical care was provided. The girl was already suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

The DHA withdrew the medical license of the doctor and banned her from practicing in the UAE. In June two private medical centers were also shut down for not following the DOH regulations.
The committee, he said meets regularly to discuss the complaints and review the regulations and medical practices of the private sector.

According to him seven medical centers and hospitals recently obtained international accreditation.

The Ministry of Health supervises 1,058 private medical hospitals and centers with 4350 doctors, apart from 1005 pharmacies, 129 medical stores, 9 pharmaceutical factories and 9 private research offices.
