Two in five UAE residents support BlackBerry ban

Poll shows half of residents think BlackBerry and TRA should come to a compromise

Two out of every five residents support a ban on BlackBerry according to the latest findings of a YouGov Siraj’s weekly Omnibus poll.

Word of an impending cut off of BlackBerry data service has spread very quickly.  Little more than a week after the decision, rendered by the Telecommunications Regulation Authority (TRA), three-quarters of residents (75 per cent) were aware of the situation.

Resistance is particularly strong among Western expats in the country, with 60 per cent expressing opposition to the move.

Two-thirds (66 per cent) think the cut off of BlackBerry service announced for October is likely to go ahead, while one-third (34 per cent) of current BlackBerry users plan to continue using their BlackBerry without the banned services and applications if the service is cut off.

Seven hundred and fifty UAE residents, including 184 current BlackBerry owners, responded to the survey.

Then let us see how many of this sample supports the ban. If that is a significant number, then I'm sorry to say they haven't understood how helpful the device is for people to keep in touch. Look at the sample - only 184 out of the 750 residents! How absurd! Obviously, security concerns crop up in every device, and this is a fact we need to live with!

The sample chosen for this survey itself is a big mistake. All residents could include people from a whole spectrum of opinion groups, including other phone users, who want to see their phone on the top, such as the iPhone, and other smart phones. Conduct the survey among Blackberry users.
