Two people were killed in separate accidents in Ras Al Khaimah last weekend, when speeding vehicles knocked them down.

The first incident involves a Bangladeshi worker, who was killed on the spot after a speeding vehicle ran over him, Khaleej Times reported. The 26-year old victim was riding on a bicycle at 6pm in the Nakheel area when the accident happened.

A Pakistani man driving the car lost control while speeding, trying to be in time for Iftar at home.

The motorist has been detained by the police and has been referred to the Public Prosecution, while the victim’s body has been transferred to the hospital.

A second accident took place on Al Rams road at around 7:30pm when a Indian biker was knocked down by another speeding vehicle. The 39-year old biker also died on the spot while the speeding vehicle was driven by a Syrian.

The police blamed the accident on speeding and carelessness and the accused has been referred to the Public Prosecution. The body of the Indian was taken to Saqr Hospital and will be handed over to his relatives.
