UAE charity organization busy serving the poor during Ramadan

In the holy month of Ramadan, the expatriate community is busy in a number of charity programmes and social service activities extending a helping hand to the needy and the poor.

Joy of Giving 2014

The members of Joy of Giving are distributing iftar packets to thousands of people to break their fast in Sharjah.

The Joy of Giving 2014, organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chlorophyll Events with the support of other corporates and volunteers, involves collecting public offerings for the poor and needy by placing collection shelves at supermarkets in major shopping malls across Sharjah. Collection points are created at the Mega Mall, Sahara Center and Sharjah City Center for clothes, books, toys, trolley items, food on behalf of Sharjah Charity Organisation.

Last year, The Joy of Giving organized the world’s largest iftar desk which got into the Guinness Book of World Records. This year the final event of Joy of Giving 2014 will be held near Khalid Lagoon, Buhairah Cornice, where any UAE resident can participate in giving and sharing on July 25, 2014.

There will be blood donation camps on every Friday during the Holy month of Ramadan. The collectibles will be handed over to the Sharjah Charity Organisation on July 25, 2014.

It has also kept special shelves in various shopping malls and anybody can donate food stuff, clothes, or other items and any deserving people can take the collections. In addition, Air India, the Indian national career is giving free air ticket to deserving expatriates who cannot afford to visit their families during the Holy Month and the winners will be selected through community radio programmes and contests.

Ramadan Night Souq

Special Ramadan Night Souq has been set up in Dubai Investment Park, which is attracting the working class residing in the labour accommodations there.

The Ramadan Night Souq offers scholarly speeches, Ghazal night for Eid, shopping and other festivities.

“We have leased many labour camps in the Dubai Investment Park and the workers living there had limited options to have iftar evenings and Ramadan night festivities. We are also bringing in many Islamic scholars from different parts of the world to deliver weekend Ramadan speeches in their languages about Islam and Ramadan. The working class population in the area hail from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal etc.,” said Rizab Abdullah, Managing Director of Ramala Group, the organizer of the Ramadan Night Souq.
