Long lines of vehicles were spotted outside several petrol pumps on Tuesday morning as UAE residents woke up to new lower fuel prices in effect from September 1.

Prices at the pumps were lowered from rates set for the month of August, with the Special grade now at Dh1.96 per litre [from Dh2.14 a litres last month], while the Super grade is now priced at Dh2.07.

E Plus 91 is lowered to Dh1.89, while a litre of diesel is now Dh1.86.

Dubai-resident Jeanine Russell stated: “It’s a few dirhams worth of savings, but it all adds up at the month end, especially when your commute forces you to top up your tank once every five days or so.”

Arjun Patel, a Dubai-resident, said: “I admit, I consciously waited those last few days of August to fill up my tank because we knew the prices were expected to come down in September.”

M Khan, a Sharjah resident, stated: “I needed to fill up fuel in my car on Monday night, but the long line of cars waiting at the petrol stations around midnight was enough to wait another day to fill up.”

UAE deregulated fuel prices from August 1. A panel has been set up to arrive at and announce the price per litre of various kinds of fuel for the following month on the 28th of the current month.

Prices for October will be announced on September 28.
