The UAE joins brotherly Arab nations in marking the Arab Traffic Week from May 4-10 under the slogan ‘We Care about Your Safety’.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director-General, Traffic Coordination General Directorate at the Ministry of Interior said: "Celebrating this year’s Arab Traffic Week highlights the importance of traffic safety as a shared responsibility for all road users. This event embodies the sense of shared humanitarian and social responsibility towards traffic safety."

Arab Traffic Week is one of the most important events hosted by traffic departments in Arab countries, and includes a myriad of programmes and activities, with purposeful meetings, forums, lectures, field visits, and interviews. It also includes a variety of related programmes that are broadcast via various Arab media outlets.

Brigadier Al Zaabi also pointed out that the slogan of this year’s event reflects the serious pursuit of countries in the Arab World to reduce accidents and achieve traffic safety.  "Tragedies that result from traffic accidents are a shared concern in any society, and we are relentless in working towards ways to reduce the social, psychological, and economic implications," he said.

He stressed that modifying traffic behaviour of road users, drivers and pedestrians alike, remains the most important factor in the efforts to reduce accidents, because majority of accidents and their negative implications are attributed to human error. "Cooperation and coordination between traffic-related institutions and authorities on all levels is additionally essential in order to reduce accidents and their resulting losses in life and property," he added.
