UK-style 'wife swap' in Egypt

An Egyptian man, apparently influenced by the famous British TV programme 'wife swap', forced his wife to sleep one night with his friend, who in turn agreed to swap his wife, newspapers in the Arab country reported on Thursday.

The 26-year-old wife in Nasr City near Cairo told court that she was forced to go to her husband’s friend, who tried to rape her at his apartment.

“My husband got his friend’s wife after falling in love with her…I tried to kill myself to stop that man from sleeping with me,” she said, according to the papers.

The report said the wife demanded divorce from her husband, who she described as an “alcoholic with bad friends and relationships.”
