Visa trouble: Nepali dancers, Chinese, Thai girls arrested from clubs

Eleven Nepali dancers who had come into the country on a tourist visa have been arrested by the police on in a club in Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4.

Reports say that the raid was conducted by the Bambalapitiya Police and the dancers are detained in the police station.

The Nepali women were dancers and it has been reported that the owner of the club has previously made a complaint in Bambalapitiya Police station stating that one of the Neplai dancers ran away with a customer.

Even though the information on the particular customer was provided to the police, he is yet to be arrested.

The runaway Nepali woman has left her passport at the club.

In a separate case, also pertaining to women working in visit visas, officers of the Police and Emigration department have arrested 12 Chinese and Thailand females following a raid in Colombo, Colombo Gazette reported.

The Colpetty police said that the girls were arrested from a hotel in Colpetty and another location down Flower Road, Colombo 7.

Among the girls arrested were 6 Chinese girls and 6 Thai girls, the police revealed.

The girls were arrested for being employed at both locations while in Sri Lanka on a tourist visa.

An investigation headed by the Officer n Charge (OIC) of the Colpetty police Mangala Dehideniya is currently underway.

The 12 girls were handed over to the immigration and emigration department and they will be deported once the investigations are over.

Several Indian nationals who work in Sri Lanka violating their visa regulations had also been arrested in recent times.

Recently a group of Indians who had been engaging in farming activities, without the required visa credentials, in Akkaraipattu had been arrested.

The police stated that they had been working on tourist visas.

Woman stabbed to death

A woman has been stabbed to death with a sharp instrument at a house in Boralesgamuwa , Katuwawala.

Police suspects that a certain group of people are involved in the crime.

The Lanka Mirror reports that the suspects have assaulted and seriously the woman's son.

The boy has been admitted to the Kalubowila hospital for treatment.

The woman is 59 and a technician of the National Cancer Institute of Maharagama.
