A woman in her mid-50s overcame infertility issues and gave birth to twins, only to succumb to death due to post-delivery complications after being discharged to go home.

Hailing from Baltimore in the US, the 56-year-old Lisa Swinton McLaughlin struggled through more than 10 years of fertility treatment. Once she conceived the twins, she breezed through the uncomplicated gestational period, apart from a little blood flow problem, which forced her to take bed rest for a month towards the end of her pregnancy.

Here babies came a little early and although they were premature, they were basically healthy babies, reports NY Daily News.

The doctor discharged the mother once her bowel movement was normal post-delivery.

However, once back home four days after the procedure, Lisa felt bloated and stopped eating. She was given medication but nothing gave her relief. She looked as if she was still pregnant. She walked and drank more water but nothing seemed to work.

She died of bowel obstruction later that day.

Lisa's husband Michael is in a state of shock and he has yet to decide if he wants to sue the hospital for negligence. Meanwhile, he is coming to terms with the loss and taking lessons on how to take care of the twins all on his own.
