Woman put newborn baby inside a toilet

An unmarried 24-year-old young woman, attempted to flee the Ragama hospital (Sri Lanka) after giving birth to a baby boy and abandoning it inside a toilet.

The young woman has been released on bail and the acting Negombo Magistrate K. G. Gunadasa ordered for detailed reports in the next hearing, local media reported.

The judge also ordered that the infant has to be admitted to the immature medical division of the Ragama hospital and after the total recovery of the infant, it should be handed over to the Prajapathi Children’s Home in Pandora.

The woman, got admitted in the hospital with stomach ache and later attempted to flee the hospital after abandoning the newborn inside a toilet.

She was cornered by the hospital staff and handed over to the hospital police unit.

Police filed arrest charges on cruelty to a newborn. Since the woman was unwell and in poor condition, she is being presently treated under police detention.

The 24-year-old young woman, identified as, Viswalingam Suda Priyani, from Alagolla, Udapussellawa, had an affair with a young man in school in their town.

Subsequently, when she arrived in Colombo for employment, she continued her relationship with her boyfriend and soon after conceived.

The case will be heard on May 8 and the judge ordered the officials to submit relevant reports.
