Woman strangles her newborn to death

Dayagama police in Sri Lanka has apprehended a woman from the 3rd division in the Dayagama Estate for strangling her newborn baby, ‘Rivira’ reported.

The story surfaced when an investigation was carried out by the Dayagama police after a complaint was filed by the woman’s husband about the mysterious death of the infant born in their home.

The child was pronounced dead on admission by the doctors at the Dayagama hospital when both the mother and the baby were admitted on serious condition.

Judicial Medical Officer of the Nuwara Eliya hospital after the postmortem reported that the baby had died due to strangulation.

The woman, who was produced before the Nuwara Eliya magistrate courts, has been remanded till November 20 while further investigations continue.
