Kuwaiti police arrested five Filipinas on charges of trading in babies born through illegitimate relationships with the help of an Asian embassy in the oil-rich Gulf country, a newspaper reported on Monday.

'Al Watan' said the five confessed to buying several babies from housemaids and other women who were impregnated through affairs with men and selling them abroad.

It quoted security sources in Kuwait as saying the Filipinas were registering the babies through an Asian embassy in the emirate.

The paper said police raiding their apartment found 13 babies ready for export to other countries, adding that the babies were taken to hospital.

“They confessed to buying babies for between 150 and 250 Kuwaiti dinars (Dh1,950-3,250) each. They were registering them at an Asian embassy which permits the registration of children with their mothers before exporting them abroad.”
