Daihatsu to recall more than 600,000 cars

Company will recall cars sold in Japan and Europe due to orange plastic indicator light covers that fade over time

Japanese mini-vehicle maker and Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Company said on Thursday it would recall more than 600,000 cars at home and in Europe due to indicator light covers that fade over time.

The Osaka-based company will recall 581,192 units of its Move and Mira models sold in Japan due to plastic indicator light covers losing their orange colour, a company spokesman said.

Affected models were produced between 1995 and 2000.

The company will replace the defective parts free of charge, the spokesman said, adding that there had been no reports of accidents as a result of the defect.

Daihatsu said around 22,300 units of its Cuore and other models exported to Europe will be also recalled due to the same defect "by following regulations in each country there".
