Escort services game for Commonwealth tally

Escort services in New Delhi were all geared up to meet a demand spiral for call girls as Commonwealth Games neared.

But the controversy-plagued Games having failed to pull even regular sports lovers, let alone tourists, escort services have since switched to offering sex tourism packages instead, reports Indian tabloid Mid-Day.

While the Delhi Games and the navratra season -- when nocturnal activities are limited to religious gatherings -- have failed to boost their “business”, escort services are trying to at least meet the expenses of getting girls from all over the country and lodging them in hotels and flats in the Indian capital.

The tabloid quotes a pimp who goes by his assumed name Rahul as saying 5,000 – 6,000 girls were brought to Delhi anticipating demand during the Games. They include some “high profile models from abroad.”

The man who works for Sonu Punjaban, a kingpin of an inter-state sex racket, revealed that houses in some posh localities were hired to accommodate the girls. But takers were very few as the Games itself couldn’t attract spectators.

"Keeping this expenditure in mind, the income generated in the first three to four days of the Games is negligible. So, after proper consideration, we have started operating as tour operators to earn some quick buck in the last few days," Rahul who hails from Nepal said.

Without disclosing names of any of the hotels he claimed were part of the “packages” offered to clients, Rahul said a two-night, three-day package would cost anything between Rs50,000 and Rs100,000 depending on the girl.

He claims to have tied up with hotels in Jaipur, Udaipur, Nainital, Shimla and other places in the northern region.

According to the tabloid, business in Delhi’s red light district GB Road has been dull too. Brothels in the area had spruced up the rooms to add luxurious interiors and even LCD TVs expecting a hike in arrivals during the Games.

Although illegal in India, sex trade flourishes and there’s no way to stop it entirely. The report quotes a police an unnamed officer as saying they do carry out surprise checks. But he admitted it was difficult to stop it.
