Calicut University in Kerala, India, has allowed nearly 1,400 overseas students enrolled in various off-campus abroad, especially in the Gulf, to complete their courses and appear for university examinations.

While all 1,400 Indian students, including those in the UAE, will be allowed to complete their examinations, the university is not accepting new admissions.

Calicut University was asked by the Kerala High Court to close all off-campus centres abroad, especially in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait , which were allegedly running against University rules and statues. The decision affected students enrolled in 25 off-campus centres.

The Indian court said these centres were operating against the directives of the Distance Education Council and the University Grants Commission.

Wisdom Education Group, which conducts many graduate and masters business programmes for expatriate students in the UAE, has stopped admitting new students for Calicut University programmes and will focus instead on its core programmes - MBA courses and other regular courses.

Ahmed Rafi B  Ferry , CEO, Wisdom Educational Group, told ‘Emirates24|7’: “We are trying to help current students enrolled with us for Calicut University programme to sit the examinations. However, we have stopped accepting new students according to the directives of Calicut University Senate.”

“We will continue our other courses from Indian Universities. We will launch ‘Super 20’ repeaters batch to prepare students for medical and engineering entrance examinations. Only 20 students each will be admitted to Wisdom Elite Repeaters batch for medicine as well as engineering entrance coaching programme.

Scholarship Examinations for Plus One and Plus Two students from all schools in Dubai and Northern Emirates will be held in November 2015.
