A pigeon which apparently wanted to avoid a flood of pilgrims at iftar (Ramadan evening meal) at the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia found safety on the head of a policeman standing guard at the world’s largest mosque.

A picture published by the Saudi daily 'Sabq' showed the pigeon perched on the cap on the cop’s head as he made no move to disturb it.

The paper said readers applauded that picture which was published on social media networks as it shows that “every one – humans and animals—are safe inside the Mosque".

“One reader said policemen at the mosque provide security and safety to the pilgrims and the birds inside the mosque,” it added.

The Grand Mosque, better known Masjid Al Haram, is the world’s largest mosque and surrounds Kaaba, Islam’s holiest shrine.
