Pirates seize German ship off Oman

Pirates hijacked a German-owned cargo ship carrying a crew of six Filipinos and four Ukrainians off the coast of Oman on Friday, the European Union's naval force said Friday.

The Susan K was on its way to Port Sudan from Mumbai when it was boarded by at least 10 pirates around 200 nautical miles northeast of Salalah, Oman, early Friday, the EU anti-piracy Navfor mission said.

"Exact details of the attack are not known at this time," Navfor said in a statement, adding that there was no further information about the vessel's crew.

Pirates based in lawless Somalia have continued to seize ships in the Gulf of Aden and beyond despite the presence of international navies patrolling shipping lanes.
