Numerologists the world over are claiming today, 10/10/10, as the luckiest day in a 100 years. “The row of ‘perfect tens’ symbolises not just a once in a 100 years quirk of the calendar, but a ‘powerful moment of rebirth’,” says a Delhi-based numbers expert.

In Dubai, City Hospital has allowed 10 women to choose the date for their caesarean births. These mothers-to-be have selected the date presumably in the hope of a perfect 10 baby. (If only it were that easy.)

Sonia Ducie, author of ‘Numerology: Your Personal Guide For Life’, says the number 10 has powerful properties – made all the more potent by repetition.

“Ten is the number for wisdom, because it contains the essence of all the numbers of one to nine within it," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying. “And the number one, which features three times in [the] date, is all about focus, new direction, raw energy and rebirth,” she added.

Then again, marriage registrar offices the world over are reporting a rush of couples looking for a perfect ten wedding, with 10 times more couples set to marry today than on an average Sunday, according to some estimates.

Many Las Vegas hotels are offering special 10.10.10 wedding packages and in China, the most popular ceremony slots, which fall between 10am and 10.10am, were snapped up months ago.

But assuming you aren’t one of the expectant mothers or the thousands of couples set to tie the knot, what does this date have in store for you?

For one, if you’re looking for a better job (who isn’t?), then today’s the day for you. “It’s the perfect day to decide to go for a job interview because having all these number ones behind you will help achieve your goal," said Ducie.

Moreover, today’s a good day (as any) to confess your love – you stand a better chance, numerically speaking, of a favourable response.

On a more serious note, there are organisations that are taking advantage of this unique date to do good.

Marking it out as a day for an ecological ‘call to arms,’ The Creative Visions Foundation has joined forces with The World Wildlife Fund, the American Red Cross, Oxfam, the United Nations Development Program and a number of non-governmental groups in creating an online video time capsule of 24 hours on the planet, called ‘One Day on Earth – Help Document the World’s story on 10.10.10’. They have over 10,000 participants signed up all over the world.

Meanwhile, there is rising fear amongst Internet users that the date will be used to launch a major cyber attack, with some cynics even predicting a complete Internet shutdown. IT experts, however, say, that 10.10.10 is no more risky than any other day. Besides, the fact that you are reading this piece on Emirates 24|7 right now is proof that nothing’s amiss.

As one commentator pointed out, while a lot is being said about 10.10.10 occurring just once in a 100 years, “can you tell me a single date that repeats in a century?” Point.
