Stolen cash machine found in Saudi desert

Saudi police searching for thieves who extracted out a cash teller machine last week found the massive steel device deep in the desert but all the money had gone, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Search patrols spotted the damaged machine in a desert area nearly 30 km from the northeastern town of Khafji, Sharq said.

“Police experts went to the scene and examined the machine for clues and stamps…but they did not find the nearly SR650,000 that was inside when it was stolen,” the paper said.

Unidentified thieves using thick ropes and a pick up last week forced the cash machine out in nearby Jubail province and fled with all the money inside it. Police said the machine belongs to a local bank but did not identify it.
