Three dead after Florida hostage standoff

A Florida man shot dead two people, including a nine-year-old boy, before committing suicide after an hours-long hostage drama at a motor home park, police said Friday.

The man also shot and critically wounded a woman and a seven-year-old boy, according to a statement from the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

He appeared to have shot another man before barricading himself inside a motor home with his wife and two children on Thursday at 6:20 pm (1100 GMT).

Police found the wounded man near the home, but the gunman warned them not to approach him. When they were finally able to reach him, the man had died.

The gunman meanwhile holed up in the motor home, releasing one hostage unharmed, a woman, who told police he was inside with his wife and children.

Police said they were finally able to enter around 1:30 am on Friday, at which point they found the three dead bodies and the two wounded people.

Police said they were investigating the incident, without elaborating on what may have been behind the shootings.
