Bizarre: Girl lives only on nuggets for 15 years

UK: A 17-year-old has eaten practically nothing else since the age of two but chicken nuggets.

The 15-year-old addiction landed the girl in a hospital when she was struggling to breathe, reports The Sun.

The teenager who works in a factory has never touched any green vegetable or fruit and is siffering from anaemia and the veins in her tongue had also swollen up.

The girl has been advised to take vitamin injections and healthy food. However, despite the health scare, the girl can't get enought of chicken nuggets, added the daily.

McDonald's chicken nuggets are her favourite. However, she also likes KFC and the supermarket ones, said the daily.

The doctors have warned her that she will die if she carries on in the same way. The girl's family has tried all means to get her to eat something apart from nuggets and crisps, but to no avail. They even tried starving her and forcing her to eat healthy food. That too didn't work out.

The family has another headache now - where to store all the toys that come with her nuggets meals!

How pimps use the Web to market young girls

US: Pimps are shrewdest marketers and increasingly they are taking the girls off the streets and turnig to the Web to rent the girls out.

Websites such as Backpage.com are a great place for pimps to market the girls, reported the New York Times.

The issue came to the forefront when a teenager abruptly banged on an apartment door and told the residents that her pimp had ordered her up the stairs to service a client waiting for her in the same building. However, she was looking for an escape route. the girl pleaded for a phone. The girl called her mother and then the police. She told the police that she was hurt and bleeding internally after enduring a series of rapes and her pimp had pushed her down the staircase for refusing to get down to work. She could not take it any more.

The girl's complaint led to the arrest of her pimp, who was 21-years-old. He pleaded not guilty on charges of rape, sex trafficking, kidnapping and forcible prostitution, said NYT.

The victim in the above case was marketed via ads on a website called backpage.com. The site allows users to place ads to sell everything under the sun, including sex, said the paper. Customers can as easily order a pizza as a girl for sex.

Sites such as Backpage have become great vehicles for pimps to sell girls. Backpage.com is owned by Village Voice Media, owners of The Village Voice weekly newspaper. Backpage earns more than $22 million annually from prostitution advertising, said the paper.

On such websites when pimp claim adult ages for the young girls whose services they sell, however most girls are as tender as 13 and 15. "The average age where a girl is forced into prostitution is 12 to 14. And most of these 16- or 17 year-olds are being run by pretty vicious pimps," Lauren Hersh, the prosecutor in Brooklyn who leads the sex trafficking unit told the daily.

What makes the marketing of sex via websites profitable is greed.

Toilet paper auctioned on eBay for a whopping £650

US: A man claims that he was challenged by his friend to type a book on toilet roll and he picked up the gauntlet and came up with the classic Moby Dick on toilet roll in response.

The man who goes by the name 'The_Heppcat' said that once he and his friend were joking that toilet paper should come with 'how to use' instructions. The man's friend then challenged him that he wouldn't be able to type out a novel on the toilet paper. He took on the bizarre job and decided to type out the 1851 book on clean 2-ply toilet rolls.

The quirky toilet paper novel is described as a 'mod oddity' on the auction site and in typical eBay style it says that the work of art has been stored in a cool, dry place for 10 years.

Parents forget four-year-old son at shop

A Saudi couple stopped their car at a petrol station on a motorway for fuel and let their four-year-old son go to the nearby supermarket. After the car was filled, they just drove away leaving their child behind.

Shoppers at the station in the southern town of Sawalha found the boy crying and phoned the police, who managed to get the boy’s father contact number.

"The parents returned to the petrol station to take their son after travelling more than 120 km without him,” Ajel newspaper said.

Toddler chews snake's head

A sleepy snake came to a rather untimely end after having its head half chewed off by a fearless toddler in an Arab town in northern Israel, the child's family told AFP on Friday.

Thirteen-month-old Imad Aleeyan, who has six teeth, was found chewing on the head of the 30-centimetre snake by his mother, who alerted the neighbourhood with her screams.

"I was making his milk and I looked over and saw he had a snake in his mouth," said his mother, Ghadir Aleeyan who lives in the town of Shefa'Amr, 15 kilometres (9 miles) east of the port city of Haifa.

"I started to scream. I couldn't believe my eyes," she told AFP. "I nearly died of fright."

Her screams brought the rest of the family -- and the neighbourhood -- running.

"We rushed in and found the baby with a snake in his mouth, chewing it. It was really scary, just horrible," the boy's aunt, Yasmin Shahin, said.

A neighbour who had rushed to see what was going on yanked the half-dead reptile out of the boys mouth and killed it, she said.

"When he pulled it out, Imad started crying," she said, describing the snake's head as "very badly chewed" when it emerged from the boys mouth.

They immediately checked the child for any bite marks but found none, with doctors at Rambam hospital in Haifa confirming he was unharmed.

"Doctors at the hospital told us the snake was really poisonous but that we were very lucky because they release less venom in the winter," she said.

But Dr Boaz Shacham, an expert on amphibians and reptiles, told AFP that from looking at images of the smashed-up serpent online, it appeared to be a coin-marked snake (hemorrhois nummifer), a non-venomous species which resembles a viper.

Such snakes grow up to 1.3 metres in length, he said suggesting it was a "very young" specimen.

"It probably didn't bite the child because of the cold," said Shacham who is the head of the herpetology collection at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

"They are not really active in winter."

Man gets $22 million for solitary confinement

NEW MeXICO: A US man has been awarded USD 22 million for inhumane treatment after being jailed in solitary confinement for 22 months for drunk driving in the southern state of New Mexico.

Stephen Slevin, 57, said he suffered clinical depression after being jailed on charges of driving while intoxicated, transferring a stolen vehicle and other offences in Dona Ana County in August, 2005.

"People were walking by me every day, watching me deteriorate day after day after day, and did nothing, nothing at all to get me any help," said Slevin, after Tuesday's verdict at the US District Court in Santa Fe.

He told jail authorities he needed treatment for his mental condition, but his pleas were ignored and he became delirious, said his attorney, civil rights lawyer Matthew Coyte.

By May 2007, when Slevin was transferred to a mental hospital, he had lost a third of his body weight, had a beard down to his chest, toenails curling around his toes, fungus on his skin, bed sores and "had been driven mad".

"It's the worst case of solitary confinement in the country," said Coyte.

The lawyer said Slevin improved at the hospital, but after two weeks he was returned to solitary confinement at the Dona Ana County jail and began to deteriorate again.

On June 25, 2007, a county magistrate judge found Slevin incapable of participating in his own defence, dismissed all charges against him and ordered him freed.

Coyte sued the Dona Ana County Commission, the jail, jail director Chris Barela and the jail's former medical director, Daniel Zemek, charging they had violated Slevin's civil rights.

A jury trial began on January 17 before US District Judge Martha Vazquez.

On Tuesday, a jury returned a verdict calling for USD 15.5 million in compensatory damages from all defendants, USD 3.5 million in punitive damages from Zemek and USD 3 million in punitive damages from Barela.

A county spokesman said the verdict would be appealed.
