Mother 'raped as children slept nearby'

AUSTRALIA: A group of seven young males trapped a 21-year-old woman in her laundry room before raping her while her children slept nearby, a Bendigo court has heard.

The males, aged between 14 and 21 and who came to Australia as refugees, applied for bail in the Bendigo Magistrates' and Children's courts, reported The Australian.

They have each been charged with 17 offences, including rape and assault.

The alleged victim left her children with a babysitter while she went with a friend to a local club and a bar, the daily said.

As she was leaving the bar at about 2am, she met a 16-year-old girl, who introduced her to the group. The men then went back to the woman's house.

The lawyer for one of the men informed the court that the party was "initially . . . pleasant".

However, the police told the judge the victim began to feel unsafe when one of the teenage men became aggressive, putting his arms around the victim.

South African bowling coach loves his dog 'Sachin'

(AGENCY)

JOHANNESBURG: South African bowling coack is an ardent fan of Sachin Tendulkar. Vincent Barnes named his dog after the Indian batting maestro, reports Mid-Day.

Barnes confirmed the news at the Wanderers' indoor nets when his team trained for the second one-day international match.

When asked by the daily why he named his dog 'Sachin', Barnes said: "It is simple. Tendulkar is my favourite batsman in the world, and has been for a very long time. I love my dog very much. "Some people feel there is disrespect. But that's not true. I love my dog like my own child. Tendulkar and Lara are two of my heroes. In fact, I had another cocker spaniel earlier who I had named Baggio," he concluded.

South African national cricket team's bowling coach Vincent Barnes could well be spending a lot of his time thinking up ways to help his bowlers dismiss India's Sachin Tendulkar, the most experienced player in both camps.

Mom played on FB while baby died

DENVER: An American mother who told police her 13-month-old son drowned in the bathtub while she was playing a game on Facebook was charged on Friday with child abuse resulting in death.

Shannon Johnson, 34, of Colorado was advised of the charge against her via a video hookup from the jail where she is being held on a $100,000 bond, said Jennifer Finch, spokeswoman for the Weld County District Attorney's Office.

Johnson requested a public defender during the brief hearing and another hearing was set for later in the month, Finch said.

Under questioning by police after the boy died at a Denver-area hospital last September, Johnson admitted she placed the baby in the bathtub and went into another room to play the Facebook game Cafe World.

She also checked in with friends and watched videos on the site while the boy bathed alone, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

When she didn't hear any sounds from the boy after 10 minutes, she found him slumped over face down in the bathwater making "gurgling" sounds, according to the affidavit. Johnson then called 911, and the boy was airlifted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from drowning.

When police arrived at Johnson's home they found a laptop opened to Facebook.

Johnson told police that she frequently left the boy unattended in the bathtub because he was "independent," he liked to be left alone, and she didn't want him to be a "mama's boy," according to the affidavit.

Beggar dumped into rubbish disposal site

GOA: India'S human rights watchdog has ordered two police officers who dumped a disabled beggar into a rubbish dump in 2009 to pay compensation to the man.

India's National Human Rights Commission says the officers in the western beach resort state of Goa must pay $1,100 to Shelton Messier, who was dumped at a rubbish disposal site on the outskirts of the state capital, Panaji, on a rainy night in June 2009.

Messier, who is paralysed in one leg, was rescued by a lawyer who happened to be passing and heard his cries.

Later, Messier and the lawyer filed a complaint with the commission against the Goa police.

The NHRC has judicial powers to oversee any human right violation in India.
