In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly gangraped and later killed by three persons in front of her husband in a village in India.

Three persons allegedly barged into the house of Deepu Nat on Thursday and raped his wife while holding him hostage, they said.

The accused later stabbed the woman to death, they added. The police has launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

Cellphone removed from Kenyan prisoner's gut

A Kenyan death row inmate has been operated on to remove a mobile phone from his large intestine, a prison warder said Wednesday.

Medical teams at a hospital in Naivasha town, northwest of the capital Nairobi, on Tuesday night extracted a mobile phone wrapped in a plastic bag from the gut of the prisoner after the device showed up on an X-ray.

"There was a mobile phone in the body and it's worrying the lengths this inmates can go to smuggle things into prison," prison chief Patrick Mwenda told reporters.

Mwenda did not specify how the inmate, identified as Bernard Kosgey, had introduced the phone into his intestine but said doctors established it had been wedged there for a month.

Earlier, tests with a metal detector had showed that Kosgey was carrying a metallic object but a body search conducted by warders produced nothing.

Exploding barbecue ruins man's Christmas

(AGENCY)

A man is in hospital after his barbecue exploded while he was cooking his Christmas lunch.

The accident happened just after midday (AEDT) at Macedon St, Hoppers Crossing, in Melbourne's southwest.

Country Fire Association spokesman Ken Kayler-Thomson said the man used an accelerant to get the fire started and it blew up, causing second - and third-degree burns to his face, arms and legs.

He said people using barbecues during the holiday period should make sure their equipment is in safe working order and follow the instructions.

Ray Rowe from Ambulance Victoria said the man was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

"It's an all too common event at this time of year, and people should be extremely careful because it can cause serious injury," he said

Swedish Santas beat up palace guard: police

(AP)

Two men dressed as Father Christmas attacked a guard outside Sweden's Royal Palace in Stockholm on Friday and escaped with his loaded gun, police said.

"A little before 2:00am (0100 GMT), the two men, dressed in Father Christmas clothes and masks, entered a restricted area by a guard post, hit him, and then ran off," said Anders Krook, a Swedish police officer.

A second soldier tried to help his comrade and pursued the men, but they escaped in a nearby parked car, Krook told AFP.

The attackers made off with the soldier's loaded AK-5 automatic rifle, a standard-issue weapon in the Swedish army.

"It seems it was organised, given the circumstances," Krook said.

Krook would not comment on how two civilians in fancy dress were able to overpower a guard with a weapon.

The Royal Palace is protected by soldiers, but Sweden's royals live in a castle in the suburb of Drottningsholm.
