Jilting is a major offence. Or at least that is what this man discovered when a Georgia court ordered him to pay $50,000 to his jilted lover for breach of promise to marry her.

The woman argued and convinced the court that she had lived together with the man since 2000 and also had a son together.

In 2004, Kelly is reported to have given Melissa a ring, following which the two moved into a new home.

The court heard that Melissa left her job to take care of their child as well as her child from a previous relationship, reported abcnews.

However, things turned sour and in 2011 Mellisa confronted him about the relationship he was having and he, in turn, asked her and the kids to move out.

She decided to file a lawsuit, thereafter.

Kelly is quoted as saying: "I never initiated the concept of marriage with her, outside of giving her that ring," according to the court filing.
