Fifty-seven-year-old woman gave birth to her own grandson to become the oldest surrogate mother in Britain.

Pamela Butler's daughter Nichola was medically unable to have a child, so she carried baby Josef in her own womb and gave birth by Caesarean section in August, reported 'MailOnline'.

It took four heartrending attempts at IVF treatment – in which eggs were harvested from Pagett and fertilised with her husband’s sperm before being implanted into Butler’s womb – for Josef to be born.

"It was the greatest gift I could have given her. It’s wonderful to watch her being a mom now. The doctors were wonderful and very reassuring. Luckily it was an easy pregnancy and it was the most wonderful moment when Nichola held her son for the first time.

Earlier this month, a court issued a parental order legally recognising Mr and Mrs Pagett as Josef’s parents, as in England and Wales, at the moment of the child’s birth, the surrogate mother is also the legal mother.
