Bizarre: Dad gives alcohol to 2-month old son

Published

Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested 19-year-old Belle Chasse man for allegedly feeding his 2-month-old son enough alcohol to register a .289 percent blood alcohol content.

Cesar Ruiz was booked Sunday with attempted first-degree murder.

In Louisiana, drivers are considered legally drunk when their blood alcohol level is .08 percent or more.

The infant, Lucas Ruiz, was initially admitted to the pediatric unit at Ochsner Hospital on Oct. 16 because of breathing difficulties.

While undergoing treatment, the child started having seizures and was moved to the pediatric intensive care unit, where his elevated blood alcohol level was discovered.

Col. John Fortunato said Ruiz told authorities he acted to relieve his son's suffering, and did not mean to kill him.

The infant's condition is unknown. (AP)

Drunk man stops traffic on Kuwait road

An Asian man who felt tired after a big booze stopped his car in the middle of the road in Kuwait, turned the engine off and slept, prompting a flood of calls to the police that the driver was dead, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Police rushed to the area in Kuwait City and pushed their way through a massive queue of cars before reaching the parked vehicle.

“They knocked at the window but he did not respond……they then started to bang louder until he was jolted out of his slumber….when he opened the window, they instantly realised that he was drunk…the man and his car were taken to the police station,” the Arabic language daily Alanba said.

Boy, 12, arrested after killing dog

A 12-year-old California boy says he killed his dog because he wanted to see the terrier mix die.

The Salinas Californian says police officers found the 12-pound dog hanging by its collar on a bedroom door handle.

Investigators say the boy told officers he was mad at the dog and he wanted to see it die.

Dispatchers got a 911 emergency call Friday afternoon from a female caller saying the boy was hurting the dog. People in the boy's apartment refused to open the door when Salinas officers arrived, so they obtained a pass key.

The boy was arrested and taken to Monterey County Juvenile Hall for investigation of felony animal cruelty. (AP)

A 51-year-old woman from California was attacked over the weekend by a shark off Makena Landing Beach Park on Maui.

Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga says the woman suffered puncture wounds to her right inner thigh and lacerations to the front and back of her right hand from pushing the shark away.

She was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.

Beaches were closed one mile to the north and one mile to the south of where the woman was attacked while ocean safety officials evaluated the situation. (AP)

Ship with 700 tons of gold disappears

A vessel with a nine-person crew and 700 tons of gold ore onboard has disappeared in stormy seas off Russia's Pacific Coast.

The ship sent a distress call on Sunday as it was sailing from the coastal town of Neran to Feklistov Island in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The vessel, hired by mining company Polymetal, was carrying 700 tons of gold ore from one deposit to another where it was to be processed. Gold ore is the material from which gold is extracted and contains only a small percentage of the precious metal.

Polymetal's spokesman on Monday would not estimate the value of the cargo.

The company said it has shipped ore via that route before, and there was nothing unusual in shipping it by the sea. (AP)

Woman, 7 months pregnant, shot opening door

Police have been searching for two men who were present when a pregnant western Pennsylvania woman was fatally shot as she opened her apartment door.

Ambridge police say the shooting happened about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The Beaver County coroner has identified the woman as 19-year-old Conekia Finney.

An autopsy was scheduled later Monday, though investigators expect it will confirm she died of the gunshot wound to her chest. The woman was about seven months pregnant and her unborn child died as well.

Ambridge is about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Ambridge police say Finney was shot immediately upon opening the door of the apartment where she lived with her boyfriend. Police haven't speculated as to a motive or named any suspects, saying two men wearing hoods approached her when one of them fired. (AP)
