SAUDI ARABIA: A Saudi man decided to lock up his teenage daughter in her bedroom for an apparent punishment. The girl is now around 36 years and is still locked up.

Police said they are not aware of the girl’s trauma but a newspaper quoted neighbours and human rights activist as confirming the woman is still confined to her room in the eastern province of Qatif.

“Neighbours and human rights sources said the girl was apparently subject to family punishment and violence and was locked up in her bedroom when she was a teen ager,” Kabar Arabic language daily said.

“They confirmed the girl is still confined to her room and is not allowed out…the sources urged authorities to immediately intervene and free the girl as she has been deprived from education and all other needs in life.”

Kabar quoted police spokesman Lt Colonel  Ziad Al Rukaiti as saying authorities in the eastern region have not received any information about that case.

But it also quoted a human rights activist as saying the girl is still locked up and calling on all parties to join hands in releasing her.

“What this father has done is totally unjustified and cruel…perhaps he is suffering from mental problems given the fact that he has not yet realized the consequences of this act against his own daughter all these years,” said Alia Al Fareed, a member of the Saudi Human rights Commission in the eastern area.

Plane in emergency landing after pilot rant

US: A US airplane made an emergency landing in Texas Tuesday after passengers restrained the pilot when he began shouting about Al-Qaeda and bomb threats, officials and media reports said.

The JetBlue flight from New York to Las Vegas, Nevada was diverted to Amarillo, Texas after the incident, which the airliner said was due to a medical issue involving the captain.

The captain went to a restroom just outside the cockpit, and when he emerged began shouting "Iraq, al-Qaida, terrorism, we're all going down!" according to the Amarillo Globe-News newspaper.

"It was a little scary, he was pretty freaked out," passenger Heidi Karg told CNN. "When they were trying to calm him down .. they had to restrain him and a bunch of male passengers ran to the front of the plane to subdue him."

Gabriel Schonzeit, who was seated in the third row, told the Globe-News: "He started screaming about al Qaeda and possibly a bomb on the plane and Iraq and Iran and about how we were all going down."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the plane's co-pilot became concerned that the captain was behaving erratically.

"The co-pilot became concerned that the captain exhibited erratic behavior during the flight. The captain had exited the cockpit during the flight, after which the co-pilot locked the door," said an FAA statement.

"When the captain attempted to enter the locked cockpit, he was subdued by passengers. After the flight landed safely, local law enforcement secured the pilot .. and he was transported by ambulance for medical evaluation."

A JetBlue statement said that roughly three and a half hours into the flight, "the pilot in command elected to divert to Amarillo, Texas for a medical situation involving the captain.

"Another captain, traveling off duty, entered the flight deck prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill crew member, who was taken to a local medical facility in Amarillo.

Passenger Schonzeit told the Globe-News: "It seemed like he went crazy," adding "We all knew in the front rows if he got back in the cockpit, we were going down."

‘Hamburglar' strikes American McDonald's

US: A real-life Hamburglar has struck at a McDonald's in the US.

Police say a young man, seemingly inspired by the pattie purloining character once featured in McDonald's advertising campaigns, ran between a car and the takeout window at the Augusta, Maine, restaurant as an employee handed a bag of food to a driver.

A witness flagged down an officer leaving a nearby convenience store.

Lieutenant Christopher Massey, acting on a description of the hungry thief, found him in the car park of a rival fast food restaurant diving into the McDonald's bag.

Lt Massey told the Kennebec Journal the suspect swore and ran into the woods. He was never caught.

Lt Massey said the three young men who had their food stolen didn't know the burger thief.

McDonald's replaced the stolen food, worth about $20.
