SOUTH AFRICA: A school-going boy has tied the knot with a woman who is old enough to be his grandmother.

The wedding ceremony between the 8-year old boy and the 60-year old mother-of-five took place in Tshwane in South Africa, reports The Sun.

The newly-wedded couple have no plans of living together, claims the daily.

The young boy told the daily that his grandfather had wanted him to get married while he was alive. The boy spoke to the daily and admitted that he was quite open to the idea of marrying a young lady once he grows up.

The boy's 45-year-old mother insists that the wedding was just a 'ritual' and 'not binding'.

Till taxes do us part: Chinese divorce to skip property tax

At Shanghai's Zhabei District marriage registration center, officials divorced a record 53 couples in a single day this week - that's about one every five minutes - as couples rushed to untie the knot to avoid tougher tax laws on home sales.

There were similar scenes in Wuhan, Nanjing and Ningbo as married couples opted for 'quickie', uncontested divorces - costing just a few yuan - that would allow them to split ownership of their properties and sell without having to pay capital gains tax of as much as 20 per cent. (REUTERS)
