INDIA: An Indian couple near the southern city of Hyderabad bought a girl aged 6 from her poverty-ridden biological mother for a paltry sum of Rs10,000 or about Dh700.
Within a few days of the transaction, the little girl begged her 'owners' to let her go back home to her mother as she was unable to do the household chores which the woman forced her to do, claims a report in the Indian television news channel NDTV.
The girl's ordeal started from that day and lasted for about two months. The couple allegedly broke her thigh bone, burnt her hands as well as other parts of her body and cause major injured to her head.
The girl was admitted with serious injuries in a hospital. The doctors say that septecemia has set in, thus turning her condition critical.
The girl's mother told the channel that she gave her youngest daughter away hoping she would lead a better life and the money received in exchange would improve the life of the other two siblings.
The couple who have been accused of causing grievous injury to the little girl have been booked for attempt to murder and causing hurt voluntarily.
