Published
By Staff and agencies

NEW YORK: Prosecutors say a New York City police officer charged with seeking to kill and eat women hinted in an online chat that his wife might have been on the menu.

Federal prosecutors said Monday that Gilberto Valle engaged in a grisly Internet chat with a man who said he was in India. They said Valle told the other man that his "girlfriend" and his wife were both 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches (1.7 meters) tall and 140 pounds (64 kilograms).

According to prosecutors, the other man asked if the wife was vegetarian and Valle said yes. Prosecutors said the man told Valle her meat would be lower quality.

The 28-year-old Valle is charged with planning to kidnap, rape, kill and eat women. Lawyers say he was merely fantasizing and intended no violence. (AP)

Sacked staff hijack Twitter account

BRITAIN: The employees of British retailer HMV revolted when they were being laid off and how!

Some workers who were angry at being sacked decided to hijack the firm's Twitter account to broadcast their plight to more than 60 thousand followers, according to media reports.

After the company found out that some of the sacked workers had 'live blogged' their sacking, the firm's official administrator took over and had to release a statement on the social metworking site, confirming the sacking of 190 employees.

In an effort to do some damage control, the company admin deleted the posts from @hmvtweets account. However, the move came a little too late as social networkers had already passed around the screen grabs to their friends, which went viral on the internet.

Some of the rogue tweets were:

“We’re tweeting live from HR where we're all being fired! Exciting!!”

“60 of us being fired at once”.

Meanwhile, Deloitte has been appointed by the firm's management to take over the running of the firm following the admin collapse. They moved to do some damage control and posted a message on Twitter confirming the lay-offs.

"One of our departing colleagues was understandably upset. We’re still here thou, thx for supporting hmv thro these challenging times," the latest tweet said.

Too little, too late?
