Crazy World: Man steals girl's pantyhose to fix car

Published

A man claimed that he stole a teen’s pantyhose in order to fix his car, according to police reports.

An Avon Lake, Ohio teen told police a man stole her socks so he could fix his car.

It happened at 7:30 pm at the Union Street garage at Crocker Park.

According to Westlake police, the 16-year-old was approached by a man who was demanding her pantyhose.

The man said he needed it so he could fix the exhaust system of his car. The girl gave the man the pantyhose and then ran off.

The victim described the man was in his 20s, wearing a camouflage baseball cap and a dark Northface style coat.

Westlake police said officers and security personnel searched the area for the man, but did not find him.

Crocker Park officials also reviewed the surveillance system, but the incident was not recorded.

Parents learn from facebook that 17-year-old daughter died

Parents from Atlanta, Georgia, are fuming after they learned from a facebook post that their 17-year-old daughter died, according to press reports.

A freshman at Valdosta State University was found dead last weekend on campus and their parents say they discovered the news on Facebook.

Jasmine Benjamin, 17, who studied nursing and lived on campus, was found dead in her bedroom near the common study area around noon on November 18. Valdosta Police believe foul play was involved and are investigating the death as a homicide for now. Her family said they were told that her body may have been moved after she died for the reason why the authorities suspect foul play.

Benjamin's mother, Judith Jackson, and stepfather James Jackson, spoke to news reporters on Saturday from their home because they want answers from the college.

The couple said they are dismayed by the way that they learned of the death of Benjamin, through a message on a friend’s facebook wall. They said that the university authorities never notified them of her death.

The university said that the standard procedure is to contact the agency for law enforcement in the hometown of the student's parents or relatives.

Teen dies after drinking poppy tea

A southern Tasmanian teenager has died after drinking a lethal brew made from poppy heads.

The 17-year-old was found dead at his home on Sunday evening.

Inspector John Arnold says the young man died after brewing a batch of stolen poppy heads into a tea.

"If you consume those opioids in that unregulated way, the consequences can be obviously lethal," he said.

Inspector Arnold says poppy-related deaths are unusual.

"A 50-year-old northern Tasmanian man died in similar circumstances in February last year," he said.

"Prior to that, the previous death associated with poppy ingestion was back in 2004."

With the poppy harvest approaching, Inspector Arnold warns it is a serious offence to steal and possess poppy heads.

The coroner will investigate the death.

Tasmania's lucrative poppy crop is worth about $100 million.
