A Midway family is grieving a daughter who became ill and died while on a Disney World trip sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The McDonald family had expected this week to be a celebration of the life of their daughter, Mia. Instead, the Deseret News reports that 4-year-old Mia got sick just hours after arriving in Florida.
Her body rejected the transplanted heart she received when she was just 4 months old. The family removed her from life support Monday.
John McDonald said his daughter had big plans to meet her two favorite characters - Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse - when they left Utah, but Mia never made it to the park.
Married man held for raping boy in Saudi
2 brothers rape drunk boy
An 18-year-old Homer High School football player and his older brother have been accused of sexually assaulting a boy passed out at a party.
The Homer News reports 18-year-old Joseph Resetarits and 20-year-old Anthony Resetarits were arrested by Alaska State Troopers. Homer school officials say the younger brother was kicked off the team.
A criminal complaint filed in Homer Superior Court says troopers were alerted to the sexual assault by a hospital nurse on Sept. 10 after the boy attended a large teen drinking party two days earlier.
The complaint says the boy passed out, and Anthony Resetarits sexually assaulted him with Joseph Resetarits also participating. Troopers recovered multiple photos from the party, including of the rape.
Troopers say there could be further charges as the investigation continue.
Man used curling iron to kill girlfriend
Police say a New York man told them he "just snapped" and killed his girlfriend with his fists and a curling iron while visiting her college dorm last month.
A Monroe County Sheriff's Office report released Wednesday says 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore detailed the killing to an officer on Sept. 29. Whittemore had been arrested earlier that day.
The report says Whittemore said he and 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut got into a shoving match while arguing over "stupid stuff" in her room at the State University of New York College at Brockport. It says he told the officer when her breathing sounded bad he hit her with a curling iron because he loved her and didn't want her to suffer.
The Utica College student pleaded not guilty during his initial court appearance. His murder arraignment is Oct. 25.
