NEW YORK: An woman aged 75 in New York was still mourning the death of her husband when she discovered that her beloved husband had actually divorced her in secret about eight years before his death because he wanted to cut her out of his insurance payout as well as his pension.
The couple were married for more than three decades. The woman found the divorce papers when she was going through her husband's personal files after he passed away of natural causes in February 2011. She read that he had divorced her for 'abandoning' him way back in 2002, reports The New York Post.
The husband had won the uncontested divorce after claiming that his wife had deserted him over financial issues. The man had even furnished papers of the place where she was supposed to have moved to after deserting him.
The widow had to hire a lawyer to prove to court that the addrress furnished was fake and did not exist at all.
The man threw his wife out of his life legally so his children from an earlier relationship could inherit all his wealth.
However, the widow managed to convince the court and it ruled the divorce fradulent and she ordered she be given not only his life insurance payment but also the pension payout.
Teen late in arriving home makes up rape
US: A 16-year-old Southern California girl says she lied about being raped because she feared getting into trouble for arriving home late.
The teenager told Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday night that she was walking on a bike path in the Santa Clarita Valley when she was grabbed by two men, knocked unconscious and raped.
Deputies flooded the area in a search for the suspects and administrators at a nearby school alerted teachers and parents.
City News Service said the girl recanted her story on Wednesday afternoon.
She told detectives she made up the story because she had arrived home late and did not want to get in trouble with her legal guardians.
The investigation is continuing and it’s unclear if there will be charges. (AP)
Drunk man goes for crocodile ride
AUSTRALIA: A man under the influence of alcohol was extremely lucky to survive definite death when he tried to ride a crocodile for fun.
The man entered the crocodile's enclosure and straddled the 16 feet long animal. The crocodile, known as Fatso, bit into his leg and tore off a chunk of flesh, reports BBC.
The man managed to escape further injury when he walked back to the pub where he had been drinking earlier for immediate help.
