Kerala actress' grope claim stirs controversy

Published

Malayalee actress Shweta Menon has created a stir in the South Indian state of Kerala by complaining against an elderly politician of attempting to molest her at a public event, where she was invited as a guest.

The 71-year-old Congress MP was booked for allegedly molesting her, before she withdrew the complaint on Sunday claiming that he called her up and apologised.

The media grabs of the event show the politician  touching her inappropriately, but he denied doing so and was quoted as saying it is a politically motivated move as the elections are nearing.

While politicians across the state burnt her effigies, the film fraternity and women’s organisations took to the streets demanding action be taken against the elected representative.

Sex workers demand designated area

Sex workers in Chennai are demanding a designated area for themselves.

There are more than 3,000 such women in and around Chennai, according to a ToI report.

In a letter sent to the state chief Minister, they said having a designated area would ensure effective policing and less of abuse. It would also help in improving awareness about sexually-transmitted diseases and AIDS. "We will be able to prevent children from entering the trade and those who have entered it against their wishes. We can also protect them from clients who misbehave with them," the letter read.

Teenager offered lift and then gang raped

Three young men have been arrested for allegedly raping a teenager in Gurgaon.

The 19-year-old, a call centre employee, was walking down towards her home when one of the suspects confronted her, reports Deccan Chronicle.

He offered her a life home on his motorbike.

But instead of driving her home, he took her to a flat where the two other accused joined him in raping her after sedating her.
