Lonely male monkeys on a wild spree

Colombo: Male monkeys are on a damage spree in Sri Lanka.

A dearth of female monkeys, environmental damage and the shrinking natural habitat are causing male monkeys to misbehave, said Dr Suhada Jayawardene, a veterinary surgeon attached to the Wildlife Conservation Department.

This has caused them to attack and bite human beings and also damage property.
Three monkeys have been nabbed in Nugegoda, Matara and Weligama for their destructive behaviour and sent to the Wildlife Conservation Department premises in Battaramulla.

The Wildlife Department officers said that they had received similar complaints about  another two monkeys as well.
The department will tame the animals and release them in the jungle.
